Your ideal Egypt trip
Tailor-made Egypt tours
A tailor-made Egypt tour with Egypt Travel Planner usually lasts 10 to 14 days and costs from €2,195 per person sharing a double room with a 3-night Nile cruise, or from €1,195 per person for 5 days in Cairo. We put your trip together personally: your own driver, a certified English-speaking private Egyptologist, carefully chosen hotels and enough rest between the great sights. There is no standard programme and no group. The trip starts on the day you land and follows your pace.
Personal reply within one working day · No obligation
A route built around you, along Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, the Nile and, if you wish, the Red Sea or the White Desert.
Your own driver in an air-conditioned car and a private English-speaking Egyptologist on every excursion, only for your party.
Your complete trip is covered by VZR Garant and the Dutch Calamity Fund, and nothing is booked before you agree.
Is this for you?
For travellers who would rather choose well than book fast.
You want to experience Egypt privately, with your own travel party.
You want expert guidance, but not a group programme with strangers.
Pace, hotel atmosphere and the quality of your guide matter to you.
You want clarity on route, costs and practical choices before you commit.
A route that does not feel rushed
Egypt is intense: distances, heat, temples, cities and impressions follow each other quickly. That is why we do not design a route on paper alone, but a trip that stays pleasant on the road. Sometimes that means leaving early, sometimes it means deliberately taking more time in Aswan or a rest day on the Nile. We cover the long distance from Cairo to Aswan with a domestic flight, plan the visits in Luxor and Abu Simbel early in the morning, and build in a free afternoon where the heat asks for it.
For culture lovers and curious travellers
The trip can be classic, with the pyramids, the Valley of the Kings and Abu Simbel, but it can also go deeper: less-visited temples such as Dendera and Abydos, local encounters, desert landscapes or a small dahabiya instead of a cruise ship. Your interests decide the content. If you would rather start from a tried and tested framework, our 10-day Egypt itinerary shows how the classic route fits into ten days, and we adjust it from there.
What does a tailor-made Egypt tour cost?
A private tour through Egypt costs from €1,195 per person sharing a double room for 5 days in Cairo and from €2,195 to €2,995 per person for 10 to 15 days with a 3-night Nile cruise. Included are hotels with breakfast, your own driver, a private English-speaking Egyptologist, entrance fees according to the programme and, depending on the route, the domestic flight and the Nile cruise; not included are international flights, the visa and tips. The table further down shows our example tours with their from-prices; they are a good guide for a custom route too. For a line-by-line budget, including flights from the US, UK, Canada and Australia, read how much a trip to Egypt costs.
What determines the price?
Four things make the difference. The season: around Christmas, New Year and the school holidays the rates of the Nile cruises in particular are higher than in summer. The hotel level: our from-prices are based on boutique or luxury hotels of 4 to 5 stars, and distinctly luxurious addresses cost more. Cruise ship or dahabiya: the tours with a Nile cruise include a classic 3-night cruise, and a dahabiya usually starts at around double the price of such a cruise. And the duration: every extra night, domestic flight or excursion counts. All from-prices assume two people sharing a double room; friends or families travelling together share the car and the Egyptologist, which usually works out cheaper per person.
What is included, and what is not?
Included as standard are private transport and all transfers, an English-speaking private Egyptologist on the excursions, hotels with breakfast and the entrance fees for all monuments and museums in the programme. On the tours with a Nile cruise, the domestic flight from Cairo to Aswan and three nights of cruise with full board are added, as well as lunch on the excursion days in Cairo. Not included are your international flight, travel insurance, the visa, drinks on board, dinners in the hotels and tips. A few visits are always a separate ticket: in the Valley of the Kings the standard ticket covers three painted royal tombs, while the tombs of Tutankhamun (KV62), Seti I (KV17) and Ramesses V and VI (KV9) are paid separately, as is going inside the Great Pyramid. When you compare operators, look closely at exactly these items.
How the planning works, from enquiry to departure
You tell us when you want to travel, who is coming, what interests you and roughly what you want to spend. Lars Janssen, who plans our English-language trips, replies personally within one working day with a few practical questions. You then receive a day-by-day route proposal, followed by a trip proposal with hotels and price. We refine route, pace, hotel level and budget together until everything fits, and only then do you book: nothing is reserved before you agree. Prices are in euro; card payment and bank transfer details follow with the proposal. During the trip Lars remains your single point of contact, and a fixed local partner in Egypt takes care of your guide, driver and everything on the ground. Typical route
The places that often come together in a strong Egypt trip.
Cairo with the pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, Saqqara, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) and, if you like, Islamic or Coptic Cairo.
Luxor with Karnak, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings and the West Bank.
Aswan as a calmer anchor point with Philae, Nubian culture and the gateway to Abu Simbel.
A Nile cruise or a small dahabiya between Luxor and Aswan as the quiet middle part of the trip.
Sample itinerary
One possible structure, always adapted to your pace.
Arrival and Cairo
Your driver meets you at Cairo airport. You start with the pyramids, the Sphinx and a museum visit with your Egyptologist. Depending on your interests we add Old Cairo, Islamic Cairo, Saqqara and Dahshur, or simply extra time to rest.
Luxor and the West Bank
On to Luxor for Karnak, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings and less-visited places such as Medinet Habu or Deir el-Medina, always with your own guide and at your own pace.
The Nile, Aswan and Abu Simbel
By cruise ship or dahabiya towards Aswan, with the temples of Edfu and Kom Ombo on the riverbank. Abu Simbel, about 280 kilometres south of Aswan by road, is planned early in the day for a quieter visit.
Extension or rest
Round off with extra days in Aswan, two days in the White Desert, more time in Cairo or a few quiet days on the Red Sea.
Practical
Duration
For Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel we usually recommend 10 to 14 days. With beach days on the Red Sea or the White Desert added, 15 to 17 days is more comfortable. Our guide on how to plan a trip to Egypt walks you through the choice step by step.
Price range
Private tours start from €1,195 per person sharing a double room for 5 days in Cairo; routes with a Nile cruise run from €2,195 to €2,995 per person for 10 to 15 days. Hotel level, type of boat, season and domestic flights determine the final price; see how much a trip to Egypt costs.
Best time
October to April is the most popular season because of its milder temperatures. May, September and the summer months are possible too, but then the daily programme needs more care: early starts and a midday break.
What we take care of
The trip should feel as logical on the road as it does on paper.
Egypt asks for smart timing, reliable people on the ground and choices that fit the way you travel. That is why we look beyond hotels and excursions.
- Private transport, guides and transfers matched to your route.
- Hotel advice based on atmosphere, comfort level and location.
- A logical route with rest built in where Egypt asks for it.
- A clear budget indication before we work out a proposal in detail.

Frequently asked questions
How long should a good tour of Egypt be?
For Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel we usually recommend 10 to 14 days. With the Red Sea or the White Desert added, 15 to 17 days is more comfortable; for Cairo alone, 5 days is enough.
What does a tailor-made Egypt tour cost?
From €1,195 per person sharing a double room for 5 days in Cairo, from €2,195 per person for 10 days with a Nile cruise and from €2,995 per person for 15 days including five nights on the Red Sea (as of October 2026). Included are hotels, your own driver, a private English-speaking Egyptologist, entrance fees and, depending on the route, the domestic flight and the Nile cruise; international flights, the visa and tips come on top. Every tailor-made trip is calculated individually.
How much does two weeks in Egypt cost?
Two weeks in Egypt costs from €2,895 per person for 14 days (Adventurous Egypt) and from €2,995 per person for 15 days (Complete Egypt). For two people that is from €5,790 or €5,990 together, plus international flights. That includes hotels with breakfast, three nights of Nile cruise with full board, the domestic flight to Aswan, a private Egyptologist and the entrance fees. With more luxurious hotels, a dahabiya or a departure around Christmas, the price is higher.
Can the whole trip be private?
Yes. We organise the trip with your own driver, your own Egyptologist and a route for your party alone: as a couple, with your family or with friends. Only on a classic Nile cruise ship do you share the vessel with other guests.
Is this suitable for a first trip to Egypt?
Especially then. A well-built tailor-made trip prevents you from stringing together too many separate excursions and losing the overview on the road. Your Egyptologist and driver take care of the practical side, so you can concentrate on the places themselves.
Can you include luxury or boutique hotels?
Yes. We match hotels, boats and transfers to the level of comfort you want. That ranges from carefully chosen comfortable hotels to luxury addresses and small boutique properties.
What is not included in the price?
The international flight, your travel insurance, the visa, drinks on board the cruise, dinners in the hotels and tips. A few visits are also a separate ticket, such as the tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings and the inside of the Great Pyramid. The standard Valley of the Kings ticket gives access to three painted royal tombs.
Can the route still change during the proposal stage?
Yes. The first proposal is a starting point. We sharpen route, pace, hotel level and budget together before you book, and nothing is reserved until you agree.
How does planning a tailor-made trip work?
You describe your travel period, wishes and budget; Lars Janssen replies personally within one working day with a few questions. You then receive a day-by-day route proposal and, after that, a trip proposal with hotels and price, which we adjust together until it fits. Only then do you book.
